The Dynamic Analog Scale, a Single-Item Measure of General Personality Constructs?

We are investigating the psychometric properties of a new computerized scaling technique. A screenshot video of the scaling technique can be viewed here. We are also investigating whether or not this technique can be used to replace multi-item personality scales with single-item measures.

Merging Idiographic and Nomothetic Ratings of Self and Others

We have been investigating different methods for empirically merging idiographic and nomothetic ratings of self and others. By idiographic we mean allowing participants to generate their own descriptive adjectives of themselves and others. They are then asked to rate themselves and others on scales anchored by their own adjectives. This procedure is essentially a modification of George Kelly's repertory grid technique. By nomothetic we mean asking participants to rate themselves and others on marker items for different traits. Currently, we have used only marker items for the Big Five personality factors but hope to employ other trait models in the future.

Self-Discrepancies on the Big Five Personality Traits

Self-discrepancies are those posited differences between the various components of self-concept; for example, the actual self, the ideal self, and the ought self. Using Idiogrid we have developed simple methods for assessing self-discrepancies on different personality traits, such as the Big Five. We have also developed simple methods for assessing self-discrepancies in an idiographic fashion.

Algebraic Model of Self-Reflexion

We have been exploring Vladimir Lefebvre's algebraic model of self-reflexion in a number of studies. Lefebvre's model is difficult to describe briefly; hence we recommend reading online manuscripts authored by Lefebvre himself. They can be found at Cogprints online: http://cogprints.ecs.soton.ac.uk/ . Once you link to this site, conduct a simple search for Lefebvre, and his manuscripts can be downloaded or read online as Adobe Acrobat files. You can also request a preprint of a paper we have recently submitted for publication (see the Publications link above).

Idiogrid

Idiogrid is a computer program that has been authored by Dr. Grice. It has played a vital role in almost all of our research projects. More information can be found on Idiogrid's official website: www.idiogrid.com.
