Psychology Club is an undergraduate organization dedicated to helping OSU students learn about the field of psychology. Activities include workshops about career opportunities at the bachelors level, admission to graduate programs, and presentations from professionals in various specialty areas in psychology. Psychology Club also facilitates interaction between students and psychology faculty, and provides opportunities for community service. All OSU students are welcome to join regardless of major.

Past

Psychology Club has offered several opportunities for its members to hear speakers and attend workshops geared towards illuminating opportunities and career paths available to them as psychology majors. These speakers & workshops included:
            “What to do with a BA or BS in Psychology” presented by the college of A&S Career             Services.
            -Faculty Research Presentations: Recruiting Research assistant for psyc 4990
              Dr. Dempsey's research topic: “Alcohol, Drugs, & Psycho-physiological Assessment,”
              Dr. Grant's research topic: "Examining Similarities Between Social Anxiety and                    Depression"
              Dr. Alderson's research topic: “ADHD: Myths, Misconceptions, and Future Decisions”
            “Applying to Graduate School” presentation by Dr. Maureen Sullivan,
            FBI speaker: Career opportunities available to psychology majors presented by FBI Agent             Rains.
            OSU scholarship opportunities—namely Wentz research projects presented Dr. Graalman’s             and three psyc majors current Wentz awardees who spoke about their experience as Wentz             scholar. Steve Hallgren spoke about Fulbright scholarships.

Psychology Club has also been extremely involved in community service and philanthropy work:
             -Psychology Club collectively raised over $700 for Crop (Communities Responding to              Overcoming Poverty) walk. The purpose of CROP walk is to raise money for people that live              in poverty stricken countries as well as help out our local needs like Harvest II, food banks,              etc.
             -During Homecoming walk-around the club held a fundraising booth where we sold glow              sticks. Half of our proceeds, approximately $150.00 went to the Payne County Youth              Shelter.
            -Psychology Club sponsored a member participating in Walk for Life with $75 of our raised             funds.
            -For Halloween, Psyc Club hosted a game booth during the SUAB carnival where children             played our game to win prizes—namely the glow-sticks left over from Homecoming.




            -Officer and members and participated in the Into the Streets community service project,             where we did yard work for an elderly woman.             









            -Psychology Club visited the Golden Oaks Retirement home to play BINGO with the elderly.





             -Finally, Psych-club members and officers are currently raised money to participate              in Angel Tree, where we will purchase Christmas gifts for two underprivileged children.

In the fall 2008 Psychology Club offered to social events:
            -An Ice-cream Social where members indulged themselves in ice-cream, toppings, in the             company of other psych-majors and faculty. Members were also treated to a movie night at             the Cinemark Theatre. Overcoming Poverty) walk. The purpose of CROP walk is to raise             money for people that live in poverty stricken countries as well as help out our local needs             like Harvest II, food banks, etc.

At the first general meeting Psychology Club t-shirt were sold out.
            -The Club promoted a t-shirt competition.
            -The winner was awarded a $25.00 gift card from Esquimo Joe’s and will be receiving a free              t-shirt with the new design.
            -Look for the new shirts to come out with in a few weeks.

            -Traveling to a Conference? Psychology Club offers grants for students traveling to             conferences. Don’t have the extra money? Psychology club can help! Download an
            application from the website.

We encourage students to join psyc club. You can do this at any time. Membership is $ 10 for the academic year you applied to. As a member not only do you benefit from the many activities the club has to offer but as a member you can apply to the Psychology Club Scholarships and for travel funds to participate in conferences. Be sure to purchase the new psych club shirt before we run out!
They are $15 and we will be selling them at tomorrow’s meeting

Psi Chi Valentine’s Day Raffle
This week from 11-2 by the bookstore in the Student Union, Psi Chi is selling raffle tickets for various prizes, including gift certificates to Kyoto, Chili’s, and Aspen Coffee.
Tickets are $1 and all the proceeds go to Special Olympics
Make sure to stop by and support a good cause!!
