What is the difference between a major and a minor?
A major is what your intended career is, and a minor is a secondary field that you want to specialize in while you are working on your major. A major requires the most coursework in that area and a minor will not have as many course requirements in the area. Generally, a minor is something you pursue because of your personal interests or because it is an area that complements your career interest. You must first declare a major and then you can add on a minor.

Minor in Cognitive Science

Cognitive Science is the study of the mind and intelligence, embracing multiple disciplines, including computer science and information sciences, psychology, neurobiology, linguistics, philosophy, and communication. The field has grown in importance over the last decade, as techniques for investigating human cognition via brain imaging have become widely used and as advances in computer science, information sciences, artificial intelligence and robotics have been made.  Because many of the psychology courses count toward the minor, this new minor may be of interest to those majoring or minoring in psychology or any of the other areas, such as Philosophy, English, Computer Science, and Management Sciences and Information Systems.
