The International Honor Society in Psychology

Psi Chi is the International Honor Society in Psychology. It is the largest student psychological organization with over 600,000 members and was the first student organization formally affiliated with APA (American Psychological Association). Psi Chi offers $350,000.00 in grants and awards each year. The society was founded in 1929. Its purpose is to encourage, stimulate, and maintain excellence in scholarship of the individual members in all fields, particularly in psychology, and to advance the science of psychology.

The Oklahoma State University Chapter of Psi Chi was created on November 10, 1948. Our chapter is one of over 1000 Chapters.

One attractive benefit is eligibility for Psi Chi research and travel awards which help promote research experience at the local, regional, and national levels. Members also benefit from chapter meetings that focus on topics important to excelling psychology majors like "maximizing your chances for graduate school" and "how to make an effective research presentation". Membership in Psi Chi also qualifies you to wear honors cords at your graduation ceremony."

Membership is open to undergraduate and graduate students who are majoring in psychology, and who meet the minimum qualifications. Psi Chi is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and is an affiliate of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Association for Psychological Science (APS). Psi Chi's sister honor society is Psi Beta, the national honor society in psychology for community and junior colleges.

Membership criteria are the following:
• be enrolled as a major or minor at OSU in a psychology program (or a program psychological in nature)
• have completed at least 3 semesters or equivalent of the college course (45 hrs.)
• have completed at least 9 semester hours (or equivalent) of psychology courses
• have earned an overall GPA that is in the top 35% of their class in general scholarship (minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4-point scale).
• have grades of A or B in psyc classes.
• have a minimum 3.0 GPA in psychology courses

If you meet all the criteria and wish to be inducted into this organization, a one-time payment of $ 75.00 ($55.00 for the Psi Chi International office and $20.00 OSU Psi Chi Chapter) will be required. Application process is online; psichi.org. From the top menu bar select join, from the drop down option select become a member and follow the instructions. Deadline to submit your application will be announced by Psi Chi officers and advisors. Your application will be reviewed by the chapter’s advisor. If your application is accepted you will receive a notification and a deadline (to be announced by the advisor) to submit your dues of $75.00 to Silvia Daggy in 102 N. Murray. Payments may be in cash or check. If paying by check, make the checks to OSU Psi Chi. When you submit your dues you are automatically a member. The induction ceremony will take place during the department’s Annual Honor and Award reception in the following spring semester.
