Women's Studies at Oklahoma State University is an interdisciplinary program designed to explore women's issues. The goal of the program is to effectively coordinate and promote teaching and research about women and gender issues across disciplinary barriers. The Women’s Studies Program also hopes to contribute to the University’s acquisition and retention of women faculty, staff, and students, by addressing issues relevant to this group. Students interested in pursuing study within Women's Studies are encouraged to complete a Certificate in Women's Studies. This certificate is offered through the College of Arts and Sciences, but is open to all undergraduates regardless of major. Courses focus on the interface of public and private spheres of women's lives and on issues such as gender, theories of inequality, women's language, race and ethnic perspectives. Courses are taught in many areas of study including education, english, history, philosophy, political science, psychology, sociology, and business.
The Women's Studies Program is coordinated by the director, Jean Van Delinder, and a number of core faculty members with appointments in various departments across the university. A number of affiliated faculty members & associates also contribute to the activities of the program. Afflilated faculty and associates with the Women's Studies Program have demonstrated a commitment to the Women’s Studies Program, teaching competence in an area of Women’s Studies, an Interdisciplinary perspective, peer-reviewed research/publication in an area of Women’s Studies, and/or participation in professional organizations in the areas of Women’s Studies.
